Lyric's Flagler Center to present Florida premier of musical 'Ordinary Days'

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

STUART — The Lyric Theatre and Curtain Call Productions will be presenting the Florida Premier of the award-winning musical Ordinary Days at the Lyric’s Flagler Center from Jan. 24-26.

Ordinary Days is a unique and honest portrayal of four New Yorkers whose lives intersect as they search for fulfillment, happiness, love and cabs. When the ever-optimistic Warren finds Deb’s notes for her grad thesis, the two set in motion a series of events that not only change their lives, but the lives of fellow New-Yorkers Claire and Jason.

“The Flagler Center is the perfect venue for this show,” says Director and Lyric Education and Operations Coordinator Karin Leone, “It’s so intimate and really allows you to completely feel the depth of the material. This show is really special because it stands on its own. The music and lyrics are so witty and powerful that it doesn’t need the spectacle of big sets or flashing lights. You’ll definitely leave this show with a feeling of warmth that will get you thinking in a great way.”

The premier will star Artistic Director Jake Sanders as the always cheerful professional cat sitter Warren, LPA Drama Director Mary Beth Albert as the hesitant-to-commit Claire, Cody Rogers as the caring and charming Jason and Katelyn Johnson as the manic, obsessive planner Deb.

“I love teaching theatre to my students but I’m really excited to get back on the stage!” remarked Albert. “This musical is full of moments in life that the audience will connect to, with songs that really pull you in.”

“When I chose this show for the season, I had already fallen in love with it through the cast album,” replied Sanders. “Its so rare to find a show where there are four distinct characters that are so relatable. When Deb sings a song all about her indecisiveness and big dreams that reality just doesn’t quite meet, you can’t help but thinking ‘I do that too!’ and laughing at yourself through her.

Ordinary Days runs Jan. 24-26 at 8 p.m. and Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. at the Lyric’s Flagler Center, 201 Flagler Ave., in Stuart. The show runs approximately 95 minutes with no intermission.
